Happy Mardi Gras 2020!
What better way to begin this fun weekend then to represent the Government at the media conference for the parade.
Destination NSW has sponsored the parade since 2009 and in that time $354 million has been generated for the NSW economy.
Mardi Gra 2020 will see more than 12,600 participants will parade down Oxford Street celebrating diversity.
This year is particularly significant as it’s the first Parade since Sydney was announced as host of WorldPride 2023.
Sydney is a truly cosmopolitan city with a proud history of celebrating diversity, so it’s no wonder visitors flock from all around the globe to witness this incredible display of pride and creativity.
Major events like the Mardi Gras Parade are paramount to NSW’s success as Australia’s number one tourism destination – both domestically and internationally.
I would like to thank the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for spearheading this exciting event, which has grown to become one of the world’s biggest and best LGBTQI marches.
The NSW Government is proud to support this fantastic celebration through Destination NSW.
We hope all participants and spectators have a fabulous time at the Parade tomorrow night dazzling down Oxford and Flinders Streets!
A highlight will be the NSW Rural Fire Service float- LGBTQI heroes.
As I said at the press conference we will all be disappointed if the mighty Marie Bashir water bomber doesn't fly over Oxford Street and drop some pink glitter!!
Wishing everyone a very happy Mardi Gras!
