Portfolio Committee 7 inquiring into Koala populations in NSW had a site visit to Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. While there we visited the Port Macquarie Koala hospital which is doing amazing work caring for injured and burned koalas with the recent bushfires.

Over 60 koalas being cared for with half suffering from bush fire burns and impacts.

We watched as Bernadette from Bilpin had her bandages changed. Sadly many koalas don’t make it to the hospital in time.

On the second day of hearings we visited and heard about the proposed Great Koala National Park, as well as hearing from local conservationists, Academics, Indigenous leaders and local government representatives.
