On Monday May 22 I represented the Minister for Veterans Affairs the Hon. David Elliott at St Patrick’s College for Girls Campbelltown to present the Premiers Anzac Memorial Scholarship 2017 to Amelia Aguiar a year 12 history student.
It was a great honour to congratulate Amelia in front of 600 of her peers at a special school assembly. Amelia leads a new generation of young Australians seeking the meaning of Anzac.
The Premiers Anzac Memorial Scholarship is a unique opportunity for students to travel to the battlegrounds where countless, young Australian diggers lost their lives in the First World War.
It is important for the younger generations of Australians to continue to learn about the sacrifice of our soldiers and devastating cost that war has had on our nation. It was these battles which have shaped our nation’s history.
Amelia will take part in the trip of a lifetime, visiting the battlegrounds on the Western Front with other students from across the state to further enhance their knowledge of the Anzac spirit. I wish Amelia the best of luck on her trip and I look forward to hearing Amelia’s stories upon her return from Europe.
