SYDNEY METRO ACCELERATES THROUGH CBD: STATIONS CONFIRMED AND FIRST BORER TO ARRIVE IN 2018

The first tunnel boring machine will be in the ground before the end of 2018 on Stage 2 of Sydney Metro – bringing world-class metro rail under Sydney Harbour and the CBD.NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance today revealed the locations of Sydney’s new world-class metro railway stations and announced investigations will begin into potentially extending metro rail from Bankstown to Liverpool. “We’re wasting no time delivering Australia’s biggest public transport project,” Mr Baird said. “Sydney Metro will change Sydney forever – it will help boost capacity of our rail network by 100,000 people every hour, servicing our growing global city for generations to come.”  Continue reading

GREATER SYDNEY COMMISSION ONE STEP CLOSER

  The creation of the Greater Sydney Commission is another step closer after legislation passed parliament today. I spoke on the bill in the NSW Upper House on Wednesday the 12th of November 2015. The formation of the Commission, which aims to produce better coordination and metropolitan planning for Sydney, is now imminent, meaning it can start work on shaping Sydney’s future in partnership with the community to support the delivery of homes and jobs in the decades to come. TECHNOLOGY FUTURE SECURED AT ATP

    The NSW Government today announced the sale of the Australian Technology Park (ATP) in Redfern to a Mirvac-led consortium. Both financial and non-financial criteria were used to assess the tender, including a vision to expand the Park’s technology focus, a commitment to upgrade public areas and community facilities, and to maintain the heritage of the site. Our Planning Minister Rob Stokes said with the sale of ATP to the Mirvac-led consortium, the vision for the Park as a vibrant creative and tech precinct can be fully realised. “Our aspiration for this site is to continue the transformation from dilapidated railway buildings to a growing technology hub,” Mr Stokes said. “Mirvac and its partners have made a commitment to revitalise the existing technology precinct, and the NSW Government has secured ongoing environmental, heritage and access commitments.” Continue reading

NEW CAMPAIGN TO INCREASE CHINESE VISITORS TO SYDNEY

Sydney-based Upper House MP Shayne Mallard today welcomed the NSW Government’s launch of a major new tourism campaign with Australia’s national carrier Qantas, to encourage more Chinese visitors to Sydney and NSW. Premier Mike Baird launched the campaign after meeting with Qantas China-based executives in Shanghai during his second official visit to China as Premier. The new joint campaign between the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, and Qantas features a large outdoor digital billboard promoting travel to Sydney and NSW with Qantas.
