My Speech to SSROC's Contaminated Land Conference

  Last week on the 23rd of November, it was my pleasure to present the keynote speech to a Conference on Contaminated Lands organised by Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC). Unification Turns 65

‘Unification’ is one of the oldest multicultural media outlets in Australia, having covered matters of interest to the Russian community since December 1950, throughout successive waves of Russian migration to Australia. From the first settlers who made their home here in the 1880s, to those who came after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, members of the Russian community have contributed significantly to our lives here in Australia and from December 1950, Unification has been there to chronicle their stories and challenges.   We’ve all heard the stories about first home buyers buying off the plan thinking they’ve just bought their dream home, and then in 12 months time, finding out they've been ripped off buy someone who it turns out reckons they could make more money if they put the home they were promised back on the market at a higher price. NSW Parliament today approved amendments to the Conveyancing Act 1919, strengthening protections for buyers who purchase properties off the plan. Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Victor Dominello said the new laws are intended to prevent rogue developers from rescinding contracts using the sunset clause to make windfall profits. “The NSW Government has listened to the community’s concerns and acted swiftly to provide home buyers with greater certainty,” he said. “Any developers who are thinking of acting unethically should know that their behaviour will no longer be tolerated.” Continue reading


The first tunnel boring machine will be in the ground before the end of 2018 on Stage 2 of Sydney Metro – bringing world-class metro rail under Sydney Harbour and the CBD.NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance today revealed the locations of Sydney’s new world-class metro railway stations and announced investigations will begin into potentially extending metro rail from Bankstown to Liverpool. “We’re wasting no time delivering Australia’s biggest public transport project,” Mr Baird said. “Sydney Metro will change Sydney forever – it will help boost capacity of our rail network by 100,000 people every hour, servicing our growing global city for generations to come.”  Continue reading
