I have called on my colleagues at the NSW State Government to intervene and save the iconic Radiata Plateau west of Katoomba from sale to developers.

Radiata Plateau is the last remaining undeveloped peninsular in the upper Blue Mountains and is an important refuge for rare plant and animal species. It is also the home to significant yet little known Gandangara Aboriginal heritage sites.

Shayne Mallard MP has been joined by Liberal Councillor Kevin Schrieber, and leading local Liberals Owen Laffin and Sarah Richards in calling on the State Government to purchase the site.

"In the recent state and federal elections I was pleased to be joined by our candidates Owen Laffin for Blue Mountains and Sarah Richards for Macquarie in calling on the state to acquire the important site.

"I was joined by the then Environment Minister and the Blue Mountains Conservation Society to inspect Radiata Plateau and obtained a commitment to review the purchase option." Mr Mallard said

Today the privately owned site is on the real estate market for the first time in forty years.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire this environmentally and culturally important site for the benefit of future generations," Mr Mallard added.

The NSW Liberal government with its outstanding economic management and revenues through asset recycling and no debt is in a very strong position to acquire this community asset.

Mr Mallard ridiculed Labor's most recent grandstanding.

"Trish Doyle and Labor promised fools gold to acquire the site even though Labor failed to do so in 16 years in government. Their promise was hollow then and more so now given their historic election loss."
