Chair of the NSW parliamentary inquiry into the gay hate murders, Hon Shayne Mallard has welcomed the guilty verdict in the Scott Johnson murder trial.
"Today's verdict closes a painful chapter for the Johnson family and we acknowledge their perseverance and pain."
“The gay hate crimes inquiry uncovered multiple tragic cases like Scott’s that still need to be thoroughly investigated and perpetrators bought to justice,” Mr Mallard said.
“Innocent gay men like Wollongong newsreader Ross Warren were bashed and thrown off the cliffs of Bondi, with the general indifference of the authorities and society of the day failing the pursuit of justice,” Mr Mallard said.
“We eagerly await the establishment of the Judicial Inquiry to seek Justice for the more than 20 victims and the families before it is too late,” Mr Mallard concluded.
